About CardWave

CardWave started from a small frustration: the moment you actually need a greeting card, the internet pushes you toward either a paid template marketplace, a generic line of clip-art designs, or a clunky eCard service that asks for the recipient's email address before showing you the card. We wanted something simpler — a free, browseable catalog of shareable digital greeting cards built for the way people actually send wishes now: by text, email, WhatsApp, DM, or a screenshot to a group chat.

Colorful envelopes decorated with pressed flowers, illustrative photo

Every CardWave eCard has its own URL. Paste that link into iMessage, Android Messages, WhatsApp, Slack, or an email, and the card unfurls with a clean preview. Screenshot it and post to Instagram Stories or X. Save it as a PDF if the recipient wants to keep or print it. The card meets the channel where the conversation is already happening — we don't move it.

How the catalog is organized

Three axes carry the entire site. Occasion answers what is the moment — birthday, sympathy, get well, anniversary, baby shower, graduation, Christmas, Hanukkah, Thanksgiving, Eid, Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day, and thank-you notes. Style answers what should it feel like, from animated and watercolor to minimalist, illustrated, funny, and elegant. Recipient answers who is reading it — friend, coworker, parent, child, partner, or teacher — which is the axis most people forget. A Watercolor Birthday eCard for a Friend reads very differently from one written for a Coworker, and CardWave does that adjustment for you.

Who this is for

CardWave is for people who care a little more than is strictly necessary about the cards they send. It is for the friend who keeps an ongoing list of birthdays in their phone, the coworker who actually writes a goodbye note when someone leaves, and the person who has been meaning to text a sympathy card for three days and just needs a starting line.

What's free, what's not

Everything on CardWave is free. The eCards, the share links, the screenshot-friendly thumbnails, and the sample wording — all free, all the time. We may, in the future, offer a paid tier with custom illustration packs or premium animated designs. The core catalog will remain free.

A note on the data behind the catalog

The taxonomy CardWave uses — the occasions, styles, and recipient voices — is modeled on the public greeting card taxonomies of well-known card publishers, including Canva's published Cards categories and Wikimedia Commons greeting card classifications. The card metadata itself (titles, design notes, sample wording) is generated and curated by the CardWave editorial team to match that taxonomy.
